From modest beginnings in 1926, McCarthy Tire has grown to be one
of the top ten commercial tire dealers in North America. The company
consists of 19 retail/commercial tire sales and automotive service locations,
as well as 3 retread facilities. The commercial tire sales and service
divisions cover nine states from their respective store locations with
a fleet in excess of 300 vehicles.
Also located at the headquarters is a state-of the art truck service center and diagnostic center. This service center provides local trucking companies a full range of allied services. These services include computerized wheel alignments, brakes, suspension service, tune-ups, complete air conditioning service and radiator repair. |
The company's most recent expansion has been the acquisition of Merchant's Tire Commercial Divisions in Landover, MD and Manassas, VA in April 2003. These facilities house a retail/commercial tire sales division, automotive service bays, foam filling and truck tire service centers. The Manassas location will also serve as a third retread facility for McCarthy Tire. Joseph J. McCarthy's early beginning was neither pretentious nor easy. He believed that hard work, coupled with an unselfish sense of community service and participation was the only answer to progress. The company, today, adheres to these same principles. Since 1968, his son John D. McCarthy Sr. has led the company to its successful position in the tire industry. In 1997, John D. McCarthy, Jr. was named president of McCarthy Tire Service Co., Inc. and his father remains with the company as Chief Executive Officer. Many other third generation family members are also deeply involved in the management of the company. Both family members and employees have a strong commitment to service. |
