At McCarthy Tire Service, we take a very personal approach to our business. We believe that every day gives us an opportunity to live our company’s Core Values. Every one of us, from our president John D. McCarthy Jr. to the newest hire sweeping the shop floor, strive to make a positive impact on those around us, as well as leave our corner of the world a better place for our children. We focus our efforts on the three big “C’s” - our company’s culture, our communities, and our environmental conservation activities.

Our Company’s Culture

Caring for each other, our customers, and our community has been embedded in the McCarthy Tire Service culture for more than 90 years, starting with our founder, Joseph J. McCarthy, when he was a young man in the 1920s. We want our associates to feel proud of working for a company that truly cares about people, one that goes the extra mile to do what’s right – in good times and bad.

As a company, our commitment to our Core Values starts with how we treat our workforce:

  • We are proud to be a family company, and we see our associates as part of the McCarthy Tire Service extended family. Family members may not always see eye-to-eye, but we are here to support each other, to work out our issues, and to come together as a team.

In honor of our recent 90th anniversary, we recognized associates for their years of service at celebration events across the company. McCarthy Tirehas acquired a number of commercial and/or retail tire companies in the last fifteen years. Associates that had faithfully served their previous company and are now part of the McCarthy Tire team had their years of service calculated from their original start date. When we reviewed our records, we found that 33 percent of our 1,100 associates have served with McCarthy Tire or the previous company for five years or more. When that number is broken down, 11 percent have served for five to nine years; 16 percent have been employed for 10 to 19 years; and an amazing 6 percent, or 69 individuals, had served for twenty or more years. Two remarkable associates, Edmund Vida and James Sabol, have each been with McCarthy Tire for 52 years! This longevity of service is a testament to the dedication of these men, but also to the McCarthy Tire culture.

Our associates exemplify our Core Values in their daily work. They take the time to listen, to do what they can to solve problems, and to make a positive difference in people’s lives. Working safely, serving our customers, and achieving our business goals are points of pride for McCarthy Tire associates. Not only does this make McCarthy Tire a great place to work, it helps us deliver the best experience for our customers.

Our Communities

McCarthy Tire Service operates in more than 45 communities. We contribute to the economic health of these communities by providing wages and benefits to associates and retirees; by paying local, state, and federal taxes; by owning or leasing real estate and other assets; by stimulating business opportunities for the many companies that service our facilities; and by doing what we do best – helping our customers to be successful at their businesses.

Nonprofit donations and sponsorships are an integral part of our company’s philanthropic initiatives. McCarthy Tire’s community investment strategy aligns with our Core Values. This translates into support for education and healthcare, combating devastating diseases such as cancer and diabetes, helping small nonprofit groups and faith organizations, and assisting in times of national weather crises. In 2016, McCarthy Tire invested more than $xxx in sponsorships and donations for xxx organizations.

Our Conservation Work

As a large, national company, McCarthy Tire recognizes its corporate social responsibility for leading the way in eco-friendly business initiatives. We embrace our responsibility to be a good steward of our natural resources.

We are proud to recycle at every stage of our operations to keep thousands of tons of harmful waste out of landfills every year. Our comprehensive conservation program recycles rubber and metal from tires, oil and fluids from truck services, scrap metal, cardboard from our deliveries, cans and bottles, and office paper.

We offer also offer a robust retread program for our commercial customers. A new tire uses 22 gallons of oil during the manufacturing process. Retreading a truck tire uses 7 gallons – a savings of 15 gallons of oil per tire. Collectively, our 8 retread plants process approximately 1,400 retread tires a day. This means we conserve a whopping 105,000 gallons of oil per week, or almost 5.5 million gallons a year.

It all makes good sense – both for the planet and for our customers’ bottom line.
